samsung galaxy fit - Google play disappeared from my phone

While uninstalling some app I may have accidentally uninstalled Google play app.

But even then I have updated Google play app before and while uninstalling it should remove only updates from my phone not the complete app. I should have been able to use default app. But I am unable to do so.

Yesterday while clicking app's icon it was showed an error, that app isn't installed. I tried to find it on my app library but it's not there.

What should I do?

I am using Samsung galaxy fit (GT-S5670)

Answer

Yes, downloading and installing the APK should work as long as you have the Google Framework Services -- basically if the Market worked before, then it will again unless you removed system services. (Those can be replaced as well but it's more hassle).

cyanogenmod - TWRP boot loop in Samsung Galaxy S3 mini (i8190L)

TWRP start and still looping.

After tried to encrypt my device (Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini - i8190L) from Settings menu in Cyanogenmod rom. It started to encrypt but in some point it stop and said that encrypt end unexpected and data cannot be accesible anymore until I reset device (factory settings), after that TWRP did not start as is expected, it still restarting in a loop.

I do not know what else say, if you need more details, please ask me!

Tests

After this error, I have tried:

  1. Reflashing the same Cyanogenmod rom.

  2. Reflashing TWRP recovery img.

  3. Flashing CWM recovery img.

Answer

I had the same problem. I solved it by flashing PARAM image. It seems that encryption is not supported yet in our software version. Encrypting the device corrupts the PARAM partition.

I used Heimdall to do it and downloaded the PARAM file here.

I hope it helps you.

How to start a Google+ Hangout from android/mobile phone?

So Google just released a new version of the Google+ app that has Hangout support. But how do I start a Hangout on my mobile phone?

Answer

It's a bummer but currently you can't. You can only join a hangout from the phone. From the Google+ help:

On Hangouts for mobile, you have the ability to:

  • Join a hangout

You can't currently:

  • Start a hangout

  • Invite people to join a hangout

(The January 2012 update of the Google+ app changed this, however.)

Can someone identify this icon (looks like a ear) in the notification bar?

(Asking this question for a friend)

What is the icon to the left of the GPS icon in the notification bar? The one that looks like an ear?

enter image description here

Answer

It's supposed to represent a hearing aid, and it means that Hearing Aid Compatibility is enabled.

It should go away if you go into the call settings and disable the hearing aid option. It'll either be something like Settings->Calls or pressing the Menu button on the dialer to get into the call settings (I think it varies some).

media player - Optimum video codec for low end Android phones?

While I know Android phones play mp4 the best, I wanted to know what other specification in this container is the best for playback, (the bitrate, resolution, fps etc). Or perhaps some other codec/format that Android can (or is designed to) play smoothly and with an acceptable file size/quality ratio?

I searched the Android developer page and tried the H.264 setting on my converter etc, but the file fails to play natively on my handset and when I tried to open it using RockPlayer. It plays slowly and the video-audio gets out of sync progressively. I tried many external players. However, 3GP videos from my Nokia phones play smoothly (even natively). So I want to know what is ideal for my low end phone (video should be normal quality and size)?

My phone is a Huawei IDEOS U8150 running Froyo with a 320x240 resolution and a 528 Mhz ARMv6 processor.

Also if anyone has tips, what types of encoding is recommended, if I'd be using the software decoder mode in apps like RockPlayer, so I can achieve more file size compression yet achieve smooth playback?

Answer

It seems that most of the H.264 encoded video files do not work in Huawei IDEOS u8150 using the Hardware renderer mode.

3GPs , H.263s and less complex video profiles work at full speed in HW mode.

Most FLV video files play on Software Rendering mode (ARMv6 MXVideoPlayer) at appreciable speed (sometimes lagging at certain points, but overclock to more than 600 Mhz, and it runs fairly good at all points)

Standard MP4s or MPEG-4 Part-2 compressed video files seem to be the best file format to play on low end android phones which is easy on the CPU (plays perfect in HW mode) and has good balance between clarity and file size.

2.2 froyo - Different volume level for new email notification and new SMS notification?

I have lots of emails coming in all day. For this reason, my notification sounds level is low. But I need to be alarmed when I have a new SMS. Currently I don't always notice new SMS messages because they, too, have low volume level.

How would it be possible to have a different volume level for new email notification and new SMS notification?

Answer

One simple method would be to use a custom ringtone for SMS where the audio itself is louder. You coould use a loud audio clip or edit one to be louder.
