Can I play DRM music from iTunes on my Android?

I thought that DRM content on iTunes could only be played on iTunes, but then I saw SongBird, a non-Apple application that can play DRM protected music.

Is there an app for that uses similar technology that can play my old iTunes purchases?

Is there any other ways I can play my music on my Android (Wildfire)?

Answer

This has basically been answered in the comments above but I'll wrap it all up into an answer:

No, you can't play songs that have Apple's Fairplay DRM protection on your Android phone without removing the DRM protection (which technically violates Apple's toc). As Edarerathis pointed out, Songbird doesn't actually support Fairplay DRM'd media, Quicktime does, so SongBird (like RealPlayer) uses Quicktime to decode the songs and play them. It wont work without Quicktime installed and so you can't use this functionality in Linux or Android.

custom roms - How can I install vanilla Android on the Kindle Fire?

I just received my Amazon Kindle Fire and since I am not located within the USA I can't use most of services provided Amazon. So I think the best thing for me would be to install a vanilla (custom) Android ROM.

How can I install vanilla Android on the Kindle Fire?

Answer

The most stable option at this point is to use CyanogenMod. You can get it onto your Fire by doing the following:

On Windows, you can use the Kindle Fire Utility to root the Kindle Fire and install Team Win's recovery (TWRP). It's extremely straightforward, and should even set up the Google drivers for you. The whole process is done via a command-line numeric menu.

On non-Windows OSes (of if you just prefer it) you can manually root with BurritoRoot. It's also fairly painless. You'll then need to set up adb on your OS, and install TWRP, which can be done by following this guide on RootzWiki. The gist of it is that you need to reboot into fastboot and then flash the recovery image, which should be:

user@linux ~ $ adb shell

$ su
# idme bootmode 4002
# reboot
user@linux ~ $ fastboot -i 0x1949 boot path-to-twrp.img
user@linux ~ $ fastboot oem idme bootmode 4000 <-- After auto-reboot
user@linux ~ $ fastboot reboot

Or something along those lines.

This works just like any other recovery system, really. Just grab CyanogenMod and put it onto your /sdcard partition. Reboot into TWRP by powering off the device, then pressing/holding the power button at the FIREFIREFIRE bootloader (installed with the TWRP image), and use TWRP to select and flash the CM zip.

4.0 ice cream sandwich - Message (SMS) contain text from other messages in Android

Has anyone experienced this issue where the content of an SMS is not complete and some other content (from different message) is added to that at the end.

I have experienced this problem many times. And now, when I am receiving tweets as SMS via Twitter functionality, I can see this problem occurring very frequently.

Below are the H/w and S/w details, if it helps.

applications - Can't authorise android device in USB debugging mode

I am trying to use a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge for debugging an android app. I've downloaded and installed the Samsung USB driver but when the device appears in android studio it says the device is unauthorised. I've got my phone connected in transfer image files mode (PTP mode). I've tried turning USB debugging on and off and after reading other forums it says I should get an authorise pc message on my phone but nothing appears.

Any idea how to get it working?

By deleting the adbkeys file found in C:\Users[Username].android folder the permission dialog appeared on my device.

How can I de-brand my phone? (install vanilla Android?)

I bought a cheap handset (XTE San Francisco, 2.1) from the Orange provider.

I'm not a regular Orange customer so I had it unlocked so I could use my existing SIM.

Orange seem to pre-load their devices with a bunch of useless stuff. Which is now even more useless since I can't access any of them.

Is there anyway I can remove these? I would prefer not to "root" my device if possible.

What about installing the vanilla version of Android, such as the flavour which the SDK emulator has?

roaming - Roam on certain countries, not in others

Android version 4.1.2.

More and more mobile network providers seem to be offering "free" roaming, i.e. not having to pay additional charges when abroad. This is true only for some countries. My network provider will not charge me extra for using voice or data in a range of EU countries, but will indeed charge me a zillion bucks if not in one of those countries. So I have to take care. Some of these countries are rather small. I travel a lot and often I'm close to a border where the handset may inadvertently connect to a provider in a neighboring country.

I would like to configure my phone to permanently allow data roaming when I'm connected to a network provider in one of those countries on the "whitelist". I would have to configure the "whitelist" myself, I guess.

I cannot figure out how to do this. Android doesn't seem to have the concept of allowing roaming for certain network provider countries and not for others. It's an all-or-nothing setting. Secondly I'm not sure a handset even has such data available. Does Android know that when connected to a network provider named "Vodafone Spain" that it is connected to a provider in country "Spain" ? If it is then it would be possible to create a more intelligent roaming application.

Please help. Is there something I can do with out-of-the-box Android or is there an intelligent app already made for this?

Based on Izzy's answer below I've tried out an app named "Roaming Control". It should be noted that I'm not affiliated with that company in any way.

The application doesn't allow to me to setup a new group of countries besides those already defined in the application. It does - however - allow me to configure a new additional single-country rule via the context menu button. If I configure a new rule for country "Spain" then that rule will show up on the Izzy's left-hand side screenshot of the app. If I'm actually in Spain (or more precisely: connected to a Spanish network provider) then that row will be highlighted in green. (The green highlighting seems to indicate the rule the application is currently using.)

Now, the nice thing here is that the application seems to be clever enough to understand that single-country rules should take precedence over group-country rules. So my newly defined rule for "Spain" will actually be the one used, rather than the pre-existing rule for "EU countries". Bingo. Exactly what I wanted to see.

I would have liked for the app to allow me to be able to define a new country group but I can live without it, meaning define each country on my network provider's whitelist individually.

An app named Roaming Control (maybe even its free trial) might help you out here. From the app's description:

Roaming Control automatically enables or disables mobile data connection, airplane mode or auto sync based on the currently active network operator.
[...]
Besides manually defined network operators, Roaming Control also supports special rules for your home network, for national roaming and for unknown networks. For certain networks, free roaming partner networks are also supported.

To me that sounds like an exact match to your requirements. To give you a better idea, here are some screenshots:
